The City of Emeryville ordered the Woodfin Suites to pay back wages to over 50 workers, as well as fines and fees, by July 31 in order to maintain its operating permit. The Woodfin has vowed to appeal the City’s decision and delay justice to the workers. Please continue to boycott the hotel and join the workers on the picket line.

The Woodfin campaign celebrated three major victories recently.

In June, the Marriott Hotel workers received back wages of $5,000 - $9,000 each. Thanks to the Woodfin workers' activism, the City of Emeryville decided that all hotels should reimburse their employees for any time that they were not in compliance with Measure C, and the Marriott chose to comply with the City and promptly pay its workers' back wages.

On June 13th, EBASE announced a political corruption scandal – revealed by the San Francisco Bay Guardian – in which Woodfin owner Samuel Hardage used his political influence as a Republican Party leader and donor to persuade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to investigate his very own hotel and workers. ICE then audited the Emeryville Woodfin Suites, despite its own written policy not to interfere in labor disputes. This revelation undermines the Woodfin’s claim that it had no choice but to fire the workers.

On June 12th, the City of Emeryville finally completed its investigation and issued the Woodfin a conditional operating permit which orders the hotel to pay back wages to over 50 workers, as well as fines and fees, by July 31. The Woodfin has vowed to appeal the City’s decision and delay justice to the workers. How, more than ever, workers need your support of the boycott.
